Skill Management Tool
Skill management is an important contribution to any company. In order for you to develop your full business potential and successfully manage your organisation, you need to have employees with the right skills. One of the first steps is to have a common system, which provides you with a full overview of the necessary skills to acquire/improve in the company.
Our Skill Management Tool is an ideal instrument for any staff group in an organisation
HR staff may use it when interviewing applicants as well as during regular staff performance interviews. Managerial staff on all levels – from executives to plant/department managers and team leaders – are provided with a clear overview of skill targets, skill levels, and training needs within their individual area of responsibility. All employees are provided with a clear picture of their agreed current skill levels and what is expected of them in way of adding/improving skills.
Skill management is also an important aspect of WCM and TPM, as it is closely related to "training", which is part of the eight pillars approach. Our Skill Management Tool fully adheres to WCM and TPM thinking and methodology, and it enables our clients to effectively and efficiently manage staff skills.
Imagine what typically happens, if a staff member is assigned to performing a task for which (s)he is not adequately qualified...the result is more often than not losses in terms of wasted time, material, breakdowns etc.
The importance of skill management
This is why skill management is of paramount importance to any organisation that seeks to implement and reap the full benefits of e.g. WCM, TPM, TPS, or TQM. Our Skill Management Tool supports that endeavour in a very detailed and hands-on fashion.
It goes without saying that any organisation should have staff skill management as a top priority. Our Skill Management Tool provides clients with the opportunity to manage staff skills across the organisation in a user-friendly, detailed, and well-structured fashion.
There is no doubt that numerous good intentions, raw material, and man-hours go to waste every single day due to the absence or insufficiency of skill management in businesses around the globe. We have developed our Skill Management Tool in order to help clients remedy that.
A perfect companion to our Skill Management Tool exists in the form of our Loss Management Tool, which also aids clients in discovering and pinpointing skill gaps that cause losses.
Our Skill Management Tool is ideal for organisations that already implement WCM, TPM, TPS, or TQM. All of these concepts are fully supported by our software. During the initial deployment we configure our software to the particular needs of the organisation, and we also provide training for local system administrators and other key users.
During subsequent operation our software offers various configuration options to local system administrators. This allows organisations to maintain the software in accordance with occasional changes in local terminology and work practices.
The default configuration of our software is according to the WCM and TPM pillars, but this can easily be modified during implementation, depending on individual client needs and wishes.
How does it work?
The software is an integrated solution presenting data entry fields, calculated fields (e.g. actual skill levels vs. target skill levels and aggregated skill gap analysis data), and data visualisations.
In broad terms, the workflow typically comprises the following steps:
- A current skill matrix is agreed as per the local chain of command.
- Individual managers define target skill levels within their area of responsibility.
- Employees perform self-assessment of their various skill levels.
- Actual skill levels and training needs are agreed between employees and their managers.
- Training is planned and conducted.
- Skill levels are regularly reviewed and updated.
- Status (gap analysis) is periodically reviewed and acted upon by assigned staff (e.g. HR).
The following are the key benefits of using our Skill Management Tool:
- One single tool across the organisation
- Involvement of the entire organisation
- Common understanding and awareness of training needs
- Easy overview on all organisational levels
- Current status of individual/departmental skills and training needs
- Automatic generation of graphs and visualisations
- Replacement of manual preparation of reports, etc.
- Clear focus on skill levels and training needs
In a nutshell, our Skill Management Tool allows organisations to eradicate losses and save time by rendering manual skill data management redundant, thereby providing for a more focused, systematic, and holistic approach to management of staff skills and training needs.
